Question by confusedguy: Help with home theater speaker box design.?
Ok, I’m looking to build an awesome home theater system using car audio speakers. I have 2 Alpine type R subwoofers and 4 – 6.5 round speakers with amps and everything. What I don’t have for all that is beautiful speaker boxes which i plan to make using walnut wood. All of the construction I can do. What I’m finding difficult is finding the dimensions, Qts, Dp, Xmax and all that to get the optimally designed box. What size port to use ect…… I would like to build four boxes for the 6.5 rounds and for now one subwoofer box. If anyone with this knowledge could please help me I would appreciate it greatly. If at all possible I would even like to contact you so we could discuss this further. Thanks!

Take a look at this software:

http://www.ajdesigner.com/speaker/index.php

Also you can get others, do a search for “speaker box design”
I wouldn’t like to discourage you, but in the long run it would cost you more to do it yourself, than if you buy a good but inexpensive system.
If you find satisfaction on doing it yourself, then go for it!
Speakers designed for cars aren’t the most suitable for the home, but they are OK. In addition to the box design, you would have to have the right cross-overs, but you may already have them.
A 5.1 receiver may have outputs that may not be suitable to drive your car speakers, but perhaps they would be OK, just know that this may be the case. Different speakers have different sensitivity, so some require more power than others to produce the same acoustical output. On a 5.1 system all of these are matched.

Question by estielmo: When burning mp3 files into an audio CD how to get the titles to appear in window of your car CD player?
I have used Nero and Windows Media Player and entered data into Notes fields but nothing ever shows in the player’s window.
Should I convert from mp3 and enter the data in some field of another format?
The player does not support mp3 files. I am burning it into a standard CD format.

If the cd holds mp3 data, then the mp3 tracks need ID3 tags.

Question by Jeremy: Pro audio recording equipment for home use?
I’m looking to upgrade my recording equipment for transfering vinyl and tapes to digital. I’m currently using Vegas PC audio software and using iTunes to convert the .wma files to .mp3. I’d like to maybe upgrade to equipment that records in real time and one where I can do seamless/gapless recordings (for live shows) and create the track cuts on the fly. I seem to always have tiny silent gaps between tracks with my current setup. I’m not rich, so I’m looking for some affordable options (definitely under $ 1,000). Thanks!

Spend the money get the ProTools, they always upgrade the software and you will be amazed what you can do with it.

Question by carl s: Can I use the audio RCA out from my home stereo receiver to a Power Amplifier?
Can I use the audio RCA out from my home stereo receiver to a Power Amplifier,if so will the receiver control the volume?Thx.

Best answer:

Answer by Maniac
That depends on what RCA output. If it is a “pre-out” or “preamp out” then yes. If it’s anything else then no. Tape output for example would not work, the receiver will not control volume. If you do have a preamp-out then yes the receiver will control volume.

Question by : RCA cables. I want the specs if possible! (car audio)?
I wana know everything about a rca cable that you would have hooked up in your car to an amp. As far as like what all the insides of the cable pieces do. Like the end of the cable (the metal piece) or the tip?

Best answer:

Answer by Grumpy Mac
An RCA cable is made from coax (similar to the stuff you see when you cut your CATV coax).

The center wire carries the signal.

A white foam surrounds the center wire and keeps it a uniform distance from a mesh or foil shield.

The signal comes on the center wire and the shield is the other side that represents 0.00 volts.

This does 2 things:

- It protects the signals on the center wire from electrical noise
- It maintains the 75 ohm impedance

The second part is .. not a concern for audio. But it’s vital for the higher frequency video signals. The 75 ohm impedance matches the input electronics on a TV. This allows the signals to see a ‘smooth’ path to the TV.

Hope this helps.

Onkyo Home Theater receiver Bundle is better with DTS-HD MA and Dolby True HD decoder on board. You will get HD sound from Blu-ray movies connected by HDMI from Blu-ray player to receiver.

Question by an_d43447: Zune Car Audio?
I bought an FM transmitter and I’m not too pleased with it. It’s just a cheap GE Universal FM transmitter, but I hear most of them suck anyway, including the Zune Car pack (and at $ 80, if it’s anything but perfect, screw that)

The stereo I put in the vehicle is a Panasonic CQ-C3403U.
Is there any alternative to an FM transmitter?
What price are we talking?

Question by EJ816: Returning subwoofers at Best Buy?
I bought 2 12″ kenwoods from best buy and I blew them. I wana know if anyone has ever return subs or car audio at best buy. If so do they test them or anything cause I was just going to say that there not loud enough instead of saying I blew them cause I don’t think ill get a refund if I say that. And I do have the reciept. Thanks to all those that answer and please noone waster your or my time by saying don’t lie.

Answer by Dan B
I’m not a big fan of Best Buy.

Don’t lie.

You damaged the speakers. If I were at the return desk, I could believe one speaker being bad, but not two.

You damaged the speakers and you want Best Buy to cover your loss due to your ineptness?

You damaged the speakers and you want other customers to cover your loss due to your ineptness by paying higher prices?

I enjoy wasting your time. I also enjoy wasting telemarketer’s time. I’m retired – it’s wonderful!

Question by : Call of Duty 2 for PC won’t Install?
A friend told me how fun COD 2 was, and I’ve always wanted to play it. So I bought it.

When I try to install it, it starts installation perfectly. It’s not until I get to disk 4 I have trouble. Usually I can get that far, than my computer crashes with a blue screen. I had the error message written down, but I can’t find it.

According to “Can You Run It?” at System requirements lab, it says I meet all of the Recommened requirements (specs below). I don’t know what’s wrong and haven’t found anyone with the same problem.

Specs:
CPU: Intel(R) Pentium(R) 4
CPU Speed: 3.0 GHz
RAM: 2.5 GB
OS: Microsoft Windows XP Home Edition Service Pack 3
Video Card: nVidia GeForce 8400 GS
Sound Card: SoundMAX Integrated Digital Audio
Free Disk Space: 135.1 GB
CD-ROM: ATAPI iHAP222 9
