Question by Carl_D: Are the speakers of Samsung HT-TZ325 home theater compatible to Pioneer Audio/Video Receiver VSX-519VK?
I would like to know if I can use the four (2 Front, 2 Rear) speakers of Samsung’s Home Theater HT-TZ325 to my Pioneer AV receiver without damaging them?
I would like to know if I can use the four (2 Front, 2 Rear) speakers of Samsung’s Home Theater HT-TZ325 to my Pioneer AV receiver without damaging them?

The back of Samsung’s 4 speakers speakers show 3 ohms only. The Pioneer AV show “1kHz w/0.05% THD @ 8 ohm”.

Does this mean the speakers are not compatible?

They should be… if the speakers from the Samsung have the special home theatre connection prongs, what you can do is cut them off.. and use the – and the + for your reciever.

Question by Ari 12334567: Help with picking a home audio system?
I don’t really know much about home audio systems. I currently own one but it starting to have a lot of issues. I would like to buy a new one but don’t know what I should be looking for when buying one.

Things I would like it to have / be able to do:
Play mp3 cds
Ability to connect to a laptop and/or mp3 player
Loud enough for a home party
Hold at least 2 cds

Is there anything else I should be able considering when looking for one?

Thank you!

This sounds like your wanting a music system, not a home theater system. It is important to choose the right system for how it will be used, the speaker and equipment choices are different for each system. First is to choose good music speakers and not surround speakers. They are each designed differently and surround speakers are not designed with reproducing music as a priority, but more for giving directionality of sound effects. This is not desirable for music reproduction.

So choose music speakers. I highly recommend a integrated amplifier over receivers as they also offer higher performance for music. Receivers have many compromises, price points, features etc. Most Integrated amplifiers do not put unnecessary features that will compromise sound quality, they also use better parts which also relates to better sound.

You will be able to hook up any mp3 player or computer into the back of any integrated amplifier so that is not a issue. Single disc cd players generally also offer better sound then multi-disc cd players but that is a option you need to see if you can do without.

I would strongly suggest going to your local high end audio video store as they carry the better brands of equipment and the salesmen are much more knowledgeable to help you design a system that’s right for your needs and budget.

Question by : Would hooking up my subs to my receiver work?
Would this work? Ok i have a pioneer vsx 1019AH-K home theater receiver. Then i have two 15 inch 500 watt RMS (1000 peak) subs and two 500 watt RMS (1000 peak) amps (the amps and subs are car audio). I would connect the subs to the amps then my receiver has 3 rca outputs they say front, center and rear, but they also say subwoofer/multi channel. I would plug my amps into those through rca cables. Then i would get two computer poer supplies to power the amps (750 watt) so i can plug them into a wall outlet. Then if it works i want my subs on when my receiver is on and the audio is synced with my speakers and subs. Would this work??

receiver manual:

The amps run off 12 volts at 10 amps so you would have to get a converter that converted 120 ac at 1 amp to 12 volts at 10 amps then plug your amps into them. It should then work.

Answer by Aardvark
Two things cause rattle

One is overdriving the amp. Speakers that need more power from the amp than it can deliver will damage the amp. That can happen because the speakers you have just need more, but also happens when you have cranked the amp to high volume and have a poor mounting box as both can make move the cones too far back and forth. Too much movement draws extra current from the amp in surges called clipping and if it is kept up the surges will cause an overload in the amp and damage it.

That’s why you should have fuses, but sometimes it happens anyway, especially if the speakers are faulty..

The speaker coils move back and forth on the coils but they can get extended onto the coils from overdriving at too much volume or too much electrical noise from the amp and either of those will damage them. Once damaged they will always sound scratchy as the stretched parts rub against each other.

If the speaker coil is burned it could produce that sound, but usually will just quit working. Most speakers can be re-coned, as long as the coils are still good but if you need both cones and coils it is probably better to buy new ones.

Also, once the amp is damaged it puts out electrical noise/static instead of clean power and that can fry the best speakers even at mid-range volume.

Question by Tyler J: Home Audio Subwoofer Help!?
I’ll try to explain this as best as possible. I’m not good at Home audio and connections and all that. My old home theater system went out so for now im using an Ilive Sound bar. On the back of the Unit it has a connection for a Sub Out, which means i can connect a subwoofer to it for better sound. I wanna use the old subwoofer that came with my broken Home theater but it jus has the Purple and Black Cables and a subwoofer control cable. My question is there any possible way to hook my subwoofer to the soundbar? Thanx

Answer by Daniel
Yes you can connect it you need to have a converter which can connect your speakers (woofers) to your tv. Ask for the converter by showing your sub woofer pins .

While it can be done, it is not recommended to hookup car audio components directly to a home theater system. First of all, you are trying to run a 12v device off of a 120v source. You could damage the subwoofer this way. Another thing is that you are underpowering the subwoofer by connecting it to a 100watt channel (most home theater systems run at 100watts per channel, your sub has an RMS of 300watts). I have seen a car audio subwoofer hooked up to a receiver like you are trying to do and usually what happens is that the receiver usually shuts off because the subwoofer is trying to draw more power than it is being supplied. So the whole idea of using a car audio subwoofer on your kenwood receiver just isn’t going to work unless you spend some money.

This is the safest way to get this to work to my knowledge. First you would need a power converter to convert 120v into 12v. Then you will need an amplifier to drive the subwoofer (a 500 or 600watt mono-channel amp would be best). You can then connect the amplifer’s audio in connections to the receiver’s audio out connections (if it has any. If it doesn’t you won’t be able to do this at all). Changing the settings to low pass frequencies on your amplifier will filter out any unwanted high frequencies.

Of course this is all pretty expensive and really is not worth it. You’re better off just purchasing a powered home audio subwoofer and, if you have the audio out connection on your receiver, connect it to your kenwood.
